Sadly John R. Woods passed away due to a biking accident on October 16th 2008. John was a rare breed of people; he was someone that I wish more people could have met. John had built one of the neatest miniature railroads in the world! I still remember how I met John, like it was yesterday. He somehow found my cell phone number online. I had just gotten off work and John called me asking about railroad signals. I told him that I have some and that he could come down to Union and see sometime. He replied that he was in Union and wanted to know where to go. I directed him to the shop where he basically wanted anything I had. He told me that I should come out and check out a railroad he was building in his back yard. So I accepted the invite and went out to see the ATT&NW. Now I was expecting a small garden railroad, I was shocked to see a train engine almost the size of my car roll by. After that John and I got along well, I had several dinners with him and his family and they are as great of people as John was. John was someone you could rely on, he always kept his word. John had several different hobbies, such as biking, trains, and reading. I was shocked to hear about John’s death, it was unreal. It still is hard to think of. I will miss him; he was one of the best people I have ever known. I just wish more people could have met him! I alos wish that the people who get to see Johns railroad for the first time; would be able to get the tour from him. John, rest in peace and thanks for everything.
